About the Rhondda Symphony Orchestra

The Rhondda Symphony Orchestra (RSO) was formed in 1968 by the late Jeff Lloyd BEM. We draw musicians from across South Wales and now have a playing strength of over 60.

We perform at least 3 or 4 concerts annually in venues across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan, often in major venues such as Hoddinott Hall, St David’s Hall and the Porthcawl Pavilion.

We have a wide-ranging repertoire, from classical through to 21st century, from the well-known and popular classics to the seldom-played and even first performances of new pieces. We like to perform with local young soloists, including winners of our Young Musician of the Valleys competition.

Our varied repertoire offers a great mix of enjoyment and challenge to its eclectic mix of members, ranging from music teachers to local musicians and talented youngsters from the locality. Within a supportive, positive and friendly environment, we pride ourselves on our high standards of performance. We are led by our musical director, Edward John, and our orchestral leader, Becci Goss.

We rehearse every Thursday evening during term-time at Y Pant Comprehensive School, Pontyclun. We welcome new players and often have vacancies. If you are interested in joining the orchestra please click here for details.

The Rhondda Symphony Orchestra is a registered charity (registered charity number 1200455).
